Romania exports furniture to 120 countries worldwide
83.3% of national furniture production is destined for export, confirming the sector’s strong international orientation and the competitiveness of Romanian-made products. The industry covers the full range of furniture for residential, office, commercial, HoReCa, and educational spaces, offering a wide variety of styles, from modern to classic or vintage.
Romanian furniture is manufactured to European standards
The industry combines long-standing woodworking traditions with modern technology and remains open to innovation across all stages of the production process. There is a constant focus on digitalization, energy efficiency, sustainability, and the circular economy.
Solid wood is the main material used. More than 50% of solid wood furniture is made from beech, while significant shares are also produced from oak, softwood, and other wood species.
In 2025, Romania’s furniture industry demonstrated a remarkable capacity to adapt, strengthening its essential role both in the national economy and on international markets.
Furniture, architecture, and design industries – a major contribution to Romania’s economy
According to a recent impact study, Romania’s furniture, architecture, and design industries jointly generated over RON 9.9 billion in taxes and duties in 2024, representing 1.9% of total state budget revenues. Their total contribution to GDP formation reached 2.74%, confirming the strategic importance of this industrial and creative ecosystem. The study was commissioned by the Romanian Furniture Manufacturers Association – APMR and the Romanian Association for Design and Innovation – ARDI and highlights the strategic role of these sectors in Romania’s economic development.
The furniture and wood-processing industries rank among Romania’s top five sectors with a trade surplus, with exports nearly double the level of imports. Last year, furniture and wood product exports reached EUR 4.25 billion, generating a trade surplus of EUR 2 billion. Of this amount, furniture exports accounted for EUR 2.45 billion, while wood product exports reached EUR 1.8 billion, according to APMR data.
